Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, situated at the head of a spectacular valley in Western Norway overlooking Lyse fjord, comprises 24 bedrooms, a restaurant and conference room. Helen & Hard responded to the traditional log construction method of the region by designing a rib structure in massive timber with a folded roof. The dramatic peaks and sharp angles of the roof acknowledge the surrounding mountainscape, while the interior includes traditional materials such as woven textiles, stonework and birch. The architects paid particular attention to environmental factors and sound insulation in calculating the composition of the various timber elements. In 2009, the Mountain Lodge was awarded the prestigious Statens byggeskikkpris architectural award.
