In 1972, Paul Schellekens designed the original De Warande Cultural Centre in Brutalist style: a massive brick building with brown-tinted glass and concrete window surrounds, and exposed concrete interiors. Macken & Macken's extension in 2005 was in sharp contrast: a crisp glass cube housing a new auditorium and cafe. More recently, Architecten Achtergael have renovated the existing complex to improve circulation, free up exhibition space and restore the 1972 interiors. The atrium of the original entrance hall has been opened up again, dominated by striking pale green information points by Atelier Van Lieshout.
