Het Paard Van Troje ('Trojan Horse' in Dutch) is an appropriate name for the largest rock venue in The Hague. In 2003, OMA inserted two new concert halls, a cafe and offices behind a historic retained facade (while replacing the Lange Beestenmarkt elevation with Cor-Ten steel). The smaller of the halls, which seats 300, was placed directly behind the old elevation, supported by six beams with large buffers so as to avoid acoustic leakage. The larger hall, with space for 1,100 and two movable balconies, is to the rear of the building, but on the same level to allow the two halls to be used together for large events. The foyer, under the small concert hall, demonstrates the conjunction of old and new. The walls have been left unrestored, showing the wear and tear over the past century. Since these images were taken, the foyer has been further remodelled by Studio Barbara Vos and Studio TILIA.
