The genus Iris Cambridge Cambridgeshire, The University Press 1913 Iris pictorial works varieties rhizomes, The illustration showcases the intricate structures of rhizomes from two different plant species, highlighting their root systems. The upper section presents the rhizome of a Pogonatum species, characterized by its elongated structures and fine, fibrous roots spreading outward. Below, the rhizome of a Regelia species is depicted, featuring a bulbous base from which numerous thicker roots extend, demonstrating adaptations for nutrient uptake and stability. Prints of the Brain and the Heart. Around 1735 Jan lAdmiral printed several remarkable anatomical prints in colour, among others on commission for the celebrated physician Frederik Ruysch. For his illustrations of the cerebral membrane (the skull of an unborn child) and a human heart he experimented with ever different colours, and made various versions of them. The objective was to provide medical practitioners with the most precise and realistic images possible.

Friedrich Johann Bertuch (1747-1822) was a German publisher and man of arts most famous for his 12-volume encyclopedia for children illustrated with 1,200 engraved plates on natural history, science, costume, mythology, etc., published from 1790-1830.
