Date: 1st or 2nd century A.D..Copy of a Greek statue of the late 2nd century B.C.In this small-scale statue, a complex crouching pose has been compressed into a two-dimensional composition. It is a decorative work based on a famous large, fully three-dimensional statue of Aphrodite shown crouching at her bath that was created in the third century b.c. In the late Hellenistic period, figures such as this were designed to be seen from only one or two vantage points. They fit perfectly between columns in peristyle court or garden settings. The bodhisattva Maitreya, Pakistan, Gandhara, 3rd century painted and gilded slate. Maitreya, the Buddha of the future, is making the abhaya mudra, or fear not gesture. His webbed fingers are a sign of his divine nature. This figure shows that Buddhist art in Gandhara, which was in contact via trade routes with religions around the Mediterranean Sea, was influenced by Greco-Roman sculpture. The drapery folds of the Maitreyas lower garment, for instance, recall Roman figures, while his hairstyle is based on representations of the Greek god Apollo.

The wide forehead, puffy cheeks, large eyes, and small slightly smiling mouth are all features that date it to the Second Intermediate Period, a time of political fragmentation in Egypt that saw the creation of lively artworks. Date: 14th-15th century.The Hindu mother goddess Hariti, protector of children, is shown here in her Javanese guise as Men Brajut. She is seated with a child standing between her legs and originally held an infant at her shoulder. Hariti is often identified as the wife of Kuvera, the nature deity (yaksha) who presides over earthly riches. Open at the top to allow a wooden post to pass through, the terracotta figure served as an ornament on the base of a pillar, probably of an open pavilion (mendopo). Bronze statue of a young man. In ancient Greece and Rome, bronze and marble statues adorned public places and the sanctuaries of the gods. Over the centuries almost all the bronze statues were melted down for re-use. This is one of the very few surviving examples, found in Egypt. The figure is a Roman version of an earlier Greek statue.

New Kingdom, Amarna Period This torso from a statue of Akhenaten was found in the Sanctuary of the Great Aten Temple or in the dump south of the Sanctuary area of the temple. The heavy breasts and sagging belly of the king are typical of his representation, a feminized body that may suggest his fertile receptiveness to life and divine inspiration from the Aten.The statue appears to have been standing with its arms held naturally so that they hung slightly forward, a realistic pose developed by Amarna artists. Like all images of the king and queen, but not the princesses, the torso is inscribed with pairs of Aten cartouches on its chest. In addition the names of the god appear on the preserved upper arm (and would have appeared also on the missing arm and on both wrists), on the king's belt, and at the top of the backpillar..
