This 1910 image shows a painted potsherd from Palestine Tel Megiddo, the site of the ancient city of Megiddo, the remains of which form a tell, situated in northern Israel near Kibbutz Megiddo to the southeast of Haifa. Megiddo is known for its historical, geographical, and theological importance, especially under its Greek name Armageddon. The site was abandoned in 350 BC.

Tomb of Ramesses III, Pharaoh of the Twentieth Dynasty in Ancient Egypt. reigned from 1186 to 1155 BC and is considered to be the last monarch of the New Kingdom to wield any substantial authority over Egypt. Tomb KV11 is located in the main valley of the Valley of the Kings. The tomb has been open since antiquity, and has been known variously as Bruce's Tomb (named after James Bruce who entered the tomb in 1768) and The Harper's Tomb (due to paintings of two blind harpers in the tomb).

Graffiti Carved into Rock

Tokaidochu Hizakurige, abbreviated as Hizakurige and known in translation as 'Shank's Mare', is a picaresque comic novel (kokkei-bon) written by Jippensha Ikku (1765-1831), about the misadventures of two travelers on the Tokaido, the main road between Kyoto and Edo (now known as Tokyo) during the Edo Period. The book was published in twelve parts between 1802 and 1822. The two main characters, traveling from Edo to Kyoto on their pilgrimage to the Ise Shrine, are called Yajirobe and Kitahachi. The book, while written in a comical style, was written as a traveler's guide to the Tokaido Road. It details famous landmarks at each of the 53 post towns along the road, where the characters, often called Yaji and Kita, frequently find themselves in hilarious situations. They travel from station to station, predominantly interested in food, sake, and women. As Edo men, they view the world through an Edo lens, deeming themselves more cultured and savvy in comparison to the countrymen they meet.

The Afrasiab painting is a rare example of Sogdian art. It was discovered in 1965 when the local authorities decided on the construction of a road through the middle of Afrasiab mound, the old site of pre-Mongol Samarkand. It is now preserved in a special museum on the Afrasiab mound. It is the main painting we have of ancient Sogdian art. The painting dates back to the middle of the 7th century CE. On the four walls of the room of a private house, three or four different countries neighbouring Central Asia are depicted. On the northern wall China (a Chinese festival, with the Empress on a boat, and the Emperor hunting), on the Southern Wall Samarkand (the Iranian world: a religious funerary procession in honor of the ancestors during the Nowruz festival), on the eastern wall India (as the land of the astrologers and of the pygmies, but the painting is much destroyed there). Intarsia Panel - Castle Interior, 1800-1858. Maker: Luigi Ravelli (1776-1858). Pinto Collection - Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965.. The technique of using inlaid marquetry to create a perspective picture in wood is known as intarsia. This panel is the work of the Italian craftsman, Luigi Ravelli (1776-1858). Considerable skill was needed to select the appropriate grain and figure from the many different veneers used to create these works, in order to achieve the subtle variations of texture in the finished picture. Ravelli has also used controlled burning to produce the effect of shade. This was done by scorching areas of veneer in a tray of hot silver sand. .
