A representation of the constellation of Sextans, from the 'Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia' of Johannes Hevelius of Danzig (modern Gdansk), 1687. Sextans was introduced in the sky by Hevelius in 1687. Hevelius's engravings picture the celestial sphere from the outside looking down at Earth, so the constellations and star patterns are a mirror image of our view from Earth.

S70-50761 (September 1970) --- This map prepared by Mapping Sciences Laboratory, Science & Applications Directorate at the Manned Spacecraft Center, shows the projected Apollo landing sites. Apollo 11 completed a successful lunar landing mission in the Sea of Tranquility in July 1969. Apollo 12 completed a successful lunar landing mission in the Ocean of Storms in November 1969.

Full Moon 1635 Claude Mellan French This modern-looking engraving is one of three remarkable prints by Mellan that depict the phases of the moon after sketches he made in Aix-en-Provence in early 1636. Mellan drew what he observed through a telescope, a Dutch invention from about 1608. The engravings were commissioned by Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc, a French humanist, and Pierre Gassendi, a theologian with a passionate interest in astronomy. Mellan completed the prints upon his return to Paris in May 1637. Peiresc, who died in June of that year, never saw the finished works.. Full Moon 393543
