STS-91 Mission Commander Charles Precourt is learning how to operate an M-113 armored personnel carrier during Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT) training activities. The TCDT is held at KSC prior to each Space Shuttle flight to provide crews with an opportunity to participate in simulated countdown activities. STS-84 Mission Specialist C. Michael Foale, who will become the fifth U.S. astronaut to live and work on the Russian Space Station Mir, arrives at KSCs Shuttle Landing Facility for the STS-84 Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT), a dress rehearsal for launch. Foale will be dropped off on Mir when the Space Shuttle Atlantis docks with Mir next month. He will become a member of the Mir 23 crew, replacing U.S. astronaut Jerry M. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- STS-135 Mission Specialists Rex Walheim waves the American flag to commemorate the U.S. Independence Day holiday after disembarking from a T-38 jet at the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.The STS-135 crew members arrived at Kennedy at about 2:30 p.m. EDT on July 4 for final preparations for space shuttle Atlantis' STS-135 mission to the International Space Station. Atlantis is scheduled to lift off on July 8 to deliver the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module packed with supplies and spare parts to the station. The STS-135 mission also will fly a system to investigate the potential for robotically refueling existing satellites and return a failed ammonia pump module to help NASA better understand the failure mechanism and improve pump designs for future systems. STS-135 will be the 33rd flight of Atlantis, the 37th shuttle mission to the space station, and the 135th and final mission of NASA's Space Shuttle Program.

The mission will take the crew of seven to the International Space Station, delivering logistics and supplies, plus preparing the Station for the arrival of the Zvezda Service Module, expected to be launched by Russia in July 2000. Also, the crew will conduct one space walk to perform maintenance on the Space Station. This will be the third assembly flight for the Space Station. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- After their arrival at Kennedy Space Centers Shuttle Landing Facility, the STS-105 crew greet the media. At the microphone is Commander Scott Horowitz. On mission STS-105, Discovery will be transporting the Expedition Three crew and several payloads and scientific experiments to the International Space Station. The Early Ammonia Servicer (EAS) tank, which will support the thermal control subsystems until a permanent system is activated, will be attached to the Station during two spacewalks. The three-member Expedition Two crew will be returning to Earth aboard Discovery after a five-month stay on the Station. Launch of Discovery on mission STS-105 is scheduled for Aug. 9

Astronaut Andy Thomas holds a facsimile of the Olympic torch that is being carried on Space Shuttle Atlantis during mission STS-101. Thomas is from Australia, which is the site of the 2000 Olympics. He coordinated the effort to have the torch added to the manifest so that it would truly circle the Earth in the spirit of the worldwide sporting event. These are for Intravehicular (IVA) wear and are not the suits designed for Extravehicular Activity (EVA). Budarin remained aboard Mir with cosmonaut Anatoly Y. Solovyev, Mir-19 commander, when the three Mir-18 crewmembers and the five STS-71 astronauts later undocked the space shuttle Atlantis from Mir and returned to Earth.

Its payload includes the P6 Integrated Truss Structure and a photovoltaic (PV) module, with giant solar arrays that will provide power to the Station. Mission STS-88 is targeted for launch on Dec. 3, 1998. It is the first U.S. flight for the assembly of the International Space Station and will carry the Unity connecting module. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- STS-111 Commander Kenneth Cockrell sits in the T-38 jet aircraft for his return to Houston. The STS-111 and Expedition 5 crews have completed Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities that include emergency egress training and a simulated launch countdown. Expedition 5 will travel to the International Space Station on mission STS-111 as the replacement crew for Expedition 4, who will return to Earth aboard the orbiter. Mission STS-111 is known as Utilization Flight 2, carrying supplies and equipment in the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo to the International Space Station. For simulation purposes, McArthur was about to be submerged to a point of neutral buoyancy in the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F). Though the Spacelab Life Sciences (SLS-2) mission does not include a planned EVA, all crews designate members to learn proper procedures to perform outside the spacecraft in the event of failure of remote means to accomplish those tasks.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- Near Launch Pad 39A, STS-99 Mission Specialist Janice Voss enjoys a reunion with friend and fellow astronaut Andrew Thomas the day before the expected launch of her mission. STS-99, known as the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), is scheduled to lift off 12:47 p.m. EST from Launch Pad 39A. The SRTM will chart a new course to produce unrivaled 3-D images of the Earth's surface, using two antennae and a 200-foot-long section of space station-derived mast protruding from the payload bay. The result of the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission could be close to 1 trillion measurements of the Earth's topography. Besides contributing to the production of better maps, these measurements could lead to improved water drainage modeling, more realistic flight simulators, better locations for cell phone towers, and enhanced navigation safety. The mission is expected to last about 11days, with Endeavour landing at KSC Friday, Feb. 11, at 4:55 p.m

In preparation for the Jan. 19 launch, he and the rest of the crew Commander Ken Cockrell and Mission Specialists Robert Curbeam, Thomas Jones and Marsha Ivins will be training in emergency procedures from the pad, checking the payload and taking part in a simulated countdown. The payload for the mission is the U.S. Lab Destiny, a key element in the construction of the International Space Station. The lab has five system racks already installed inside the module. After delivery of electronics in the lab, electrically powered attitude control for Control Moment Gyroscopes will be activated. STS-98 is the seventh construction flight to the ISS.<br
