KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - STS-111 Commander Kenneth Cockrell speaks to the media before leaving KSC along with his crew and Expedition 5. They have been taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities that include emergency egress training and a simulated launch countdown. Mission STS-111 is known as Utilization Flight 2, carrying supplies and equipment in the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo to the International Space Station. The payload also includes the Mobile Base System, which will be installed on the Mobile Transporter to complete the Canadian Mobile Servicing System, or MSS, and a replacement wrist/roll joint for Canadarm 2. The mechanical arm will then have the capability to "inchworm" from the U.S. Lab Destiny to the MSS and travel along the truss to work sites. STS-98 Mission Specialist Thomas Jones happily arrives at KSCs Shuttle Landing Facility for Terminal Countdown Test Activities. In preparation for the Jan. 19 launch, he and the rest of the crew Commander Ken Cockrell, Pilot Mark Polansky and Mission Specialists Robert Curbeam and Marsha Ivins will be training in emergency procedures from the pad, checking the payload and taking part in a simulated countdown. The payload for the mission is the U.S. Lab Destiny, a key element in the construction of the International Space Station. The lab has five system racks already installed inside the module. Tani returned with the STS-122 crew on space shuttle Atlantiswith a landing at 9:07 a.m. EST on Runway 15 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center after a round trip of nearly 5.3 million miles.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Space shuttle Atlantis STS-122 Mission Specialist Leland Melvin arrives at Launch Pad 39A, dressed in his launch and entry suit, to participate in a simulated launch countdown aboard Atlantis. The exercise is part of terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT, activities at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The TCDT is a dress rehearsal for launch and also provides astronauts and ground crews with equipment familiarization and emergency egress training. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - STS-127 Commander Mark Polansky smiles after practicing driving the M-113 armored personnel carrier. The crew members of space shuttle Endeavour's STS-127 mission will each practice driving the M-113 in turn as part of their training on emergency egress procedures. An M-113 will be available to transport the crew to safety in the event of a contingency on the pad before their launch. The crew is at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for a launch dress rehearsal called the terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT, which includes the emergency egress training and equipment familiarization. The STS-127 mission is the final of three flights dedicated to the assembly of the Japanese Kibo laboratory complex. Endeavour's launch is targeted for June 13.

Landing took place on Runway 15 at NASA Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility as the sun set on the shortest day of the year. Musgrave became at age 61 the oldest human being to fly into space and in completing his sixth spaceflight ties astronaut John Youngs record for most human spaceflight, while also setting a new record for most Shuttle flights. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- During a simulated launch countdown, STS-134 Mission Specialist Roberto Vittori, with the European Space Agency, checks the fit of his bright-orange, launch-and-entry suit in the Operations and Checkout Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Next, Vittori and his crewmates will walk out to the waiting Astrovan. As part of the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT), the crew members will ride to the pad in their silver Astrovan and strap into space shuttle Endeavour to practice the steps that will be taken on launch day. Endeavour's six crew members are targeted to launch April 19 at 7:48 p.m. EDT. They will deliver the Express Logistics Carrier-3, Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 (AMS), a high-pressure gas tank, additional spare parts for the Dextre robotic helper and micrometeoroid debris shields to the International Space Station. This will be the final spaceflight for Endeavour.

The STS-135 mission also will fly a system to investigate the potential for robotically refueling existing satellites and return a failed ammonia pump module to help NASA better understand the failure mechanism and improve pump designs for future systems.
