Anatomy Sketchbook Eastman Johnson (American, 1824-1906). Anatomy Sketchbook, 1849. Graphite on beige, medium weight, slightly textured laid paper, Sketchbook: 17 1/8 x 11 1/16 x 3/8 in. (43.5 x 28.1 x 1 cm). Eastman Johnson used this sketchbook while enrolled in an anatomy class at the Düsseldorf Royal Academy in Germany. The meticulous, almost scientific precision of his skeleton studies reveals the schools emphasis on draftsmanship and anatomical knowledge as fundamental tools for the artist. Many of the drawings include grids and other geometric guidelines, as well as notations about ideal proportions of the human body. Johnson parlayed his academic training into a successful career as a painter of American genre subjects. American Art 1849

When important individuals died during the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), they were commemorated in lengthy epitaphs that were inscribed on durable surfaces for posterity. This set of fourteen plaques (we are showing only part of the set) records the biography and family history of a celebrated poet, Park Eun (1479-1504), and even includes examples of his verses. This is an unusually early example of the use of porcelain for preserving epitaphs. Prior to this period, epitaphs were carved into stone. In this early period, iron oxide was used to write the text, whereas later cobalt blue would be preferred. Asian Art 1509

Reminder album for F.J. Junius, departing resident of Lampong (South Sumatra), Anonymous, 1932 - 1933 Photo album in brown cover of brown crocodile leather. The back is showered with a red -brown cord. The album contains 22 sheets separated by intermediate sheets of pergamine with a total of 86 photos, 1 of which was found separately. The prints have a white border and are attached with gold -colored photo corners. Each photo has a handwritten caption. The album was probably offered at F.J. Junius, Resident of Lampong (South Sumatra) from 1930 to 1933. Various police and fire brigades are shown from his district, mostly stately group portraits and 'action photos taken in scene' of shooting and screen lessons, exercises, leisure activities and the verbalizing of a driver. The unveiling of the so-called 'Junius-Bank' in Tandjongkarang on 21 May 1921 also comes into the picture.
