KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Two Boeing Delta IV first stages are being shipped on the Delta Mariner, heading for Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. After arrival at Port Canaveral, they will be transported to the Horizontal Integration Facility at Launch Complex 37, CCAFS. The rocket will be used for the December launching of the GOES-N weather satellite for NASA and NOAA. The GOES-N is the first in a series of three advanced weather satellites including GOES-O and GOES-P. This satellite will provide continuous monitoring necessary for intensive data analysis. It will provide a constant vigil for the atmospheric triggers” of severe weather conditions such as tornadoes, flash floods, hail storms and hurricanes. When these conditions develop, GOES-N will be able to monitor storm development and track their movements.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - A NASA Railroad train crosses the railroads Jay Jay Railroad Bridge north of Launch Complex 39 at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The train is on its way to the Florida East Coast Railway interchange in Titusville, Fla., where the trains helium tank cars, a liquid oxygen tank car, and a liquid hydrogen dewar or tank car will be transferred for delivery to the SpaceX engine test complex outside McGregor, Texas.The railroad cars were needed in support of the Space Shuttle Program but currently are not in use by NASA following the completion of the program in 2011. Originally, the tankers belonged to the U.S. Bureau of Mines. At the peak of the shuttle program, there were approximately 30 cars in the fleet. About half the cars were returned to the bureau as launch activity diminished. Five tank cars are being loaned to SpaceX and repurposed to support their engine tests in Texas. The U.S. Coast Guard, Maryland Department of the Environment and Evergreen Marine Corporation, in partnership with multiple state and local responders, refloat the Ever Forward Sunday, April 17, in the Chesapeake Bay. The 1,095-foot container ship was refloated after a five-week-long salvage operation that began Sunday, March 13 when the vessel grounded near the Craighill Channel.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- NASA's Pegasus barge, carrying the Space Shuttle Program's last external fuel tank, ET-122, arrives at the Turn Basin of NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The tank traveled 900 miles by sea from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Next, the tank will be offloaded and moved to the Vehicle Assembly Building where it eventually will be attached to space shuttle Endeavour for the STS-134 mission to the International Space Station. STS-134, targeted to launch in Feb. 2011, currently is scheduled to be the last mission in the Space Shuttle Program. The tank, which is the largest element of the space shuttle stack, was damaged during Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 and restored to flight configuration by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company employees.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- A flat bed truck hauls the container with the Experiment Logistics Module Pressurized Section inside away from the Trident wharf. The logistics module is part of the Japanese Experiment Module. The logistics module is being transported to the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The Japanese Experiment Module is composed of three segments and is known as Kibo, which means "hope" in Japanese. Kibo consists of six components: two research facilities -- the Pressurized Module and Exposed Facility; a Logistics Module attached to each of them; a Remote Manipulator System; and an Inter-Orbit Communication System unit. Kibo also has a scientific airlock through which experiments are transferred and exposed to the external environment of space. Kibo is Japan's first human space facility and its primary contribution to the station. Kibo will enhance the unique research capabilities of the orbiting complex by providing an additiona

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - The Pegasus barge (right) is pushed away from the dock in the Turn Basin at NASAs Kennedy Space Center. The barge is carrying external tank #120, which is being returned to NASAs Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana for additional modifications. The barge is being moved to Port Canaveral where one of NASAs solid rocket booster retrieval ships will take it and tow it around the Florida peninsula to Michoud. This tank is the first of the newly designed tanks that were delivered to Kennedy. Previously, the tank was stacked with Discovery and, more recently, Atlantis. The tank has already gone through two tanking cycles during tanking tests but was replaced with tank #121 for Discoverys return to flight mission STS-114.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Solid rocket motor segments and two aft exit cone segments arrive by rail at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. While enroute, solid rocket motor segments were involved in a derailment in Alabama. The rail cars carrying these segments remained upright and were undamaged. An inspection determined these segment cars could continue on to Florida. The segments themselves will undergo further evaluation at Kennedy before they are cleared for flight. Other segments involved in the derailment will be returned to a plant in Utah for further evaluation.
