Three women in a loan library; The circulating library. There is a woman with a catalog in her hands for the counter. She discusses the offer with the librarian, a man with a goose feather behind his ear that is on the other side of the counter. In the background a man on a ladder is busy restoring books.

Village School. A 'Dame' School, showing the teacher spinning while supervising the children as they learn to read and sew. Two little girls play with a doll.In the spinning wheel stand is a bunch of birch twigs ready to hit the children when they were naughty or inattentive. Late 18th century.

The writing lesson. A boy is sitting at a desk with writing utensils and gets a woman's writing lesson. In the room there is a spinning wheel, kitchen supplies and there is a show on paper in the window frame.
