CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The mockup Orion crew exploration vehicle floats in the water at the Trident Basin at Port Canaveral, Fla. Orion is targeted to begin carrying humans to the International Space Station in 2015 and to the moon by 2020. The mockup vehicle will undergo testing in open water. The goal of the operation, dubbed the Post-landing Orion Recovery Test, or PORT, is to determine what kind of motion astronauts can expect after landing, as well as outside conditions for recovery teams. Orion, along with the Ares I and V rockets and the Altair lunar lander, are part of the Constellation Program.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The Solid Rocket Booster Retrieval Ship Liberty Star tows a booster to the dock at Hangar AF at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The booster was used during space shuttle Discovery's launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida March 15 on mission STS-119. The space shuttles solid rocket booster casings and associated flight hardware are recovered at sea after a launch. The spent rockets were recovered by NASA's Solid Rocket Booster Retrieval Ships Freedom Star and Liberty Star. The boosters impact the Atlantic Ocean approximately seven minutes after liftoff. The splashdown area is a square of about six by nine nautical miles located about 140 nautical miles downrange from the launch pad. The retrieval ships are stationed approximately 8 to 10 nautical miles from the impact area at the time of splashdown. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - The media visit the docks where Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) retrieval ships are stationed. The stop was part of a day-long event that featured the movement of the first SRB segments to the Vehicle Assembly Building for stacking for Return to Flight mission STS-114. Two SRBs support the liftoff of the Space Shuttle on a launch. The twin 149-foot tall, 12-foot diameter SRBs provide the main propulsion system during launch to place the orbiters in the proper orbit around the Earth. They operate parallel with the Space Shuttle main engines for the first two minutes of flight and jettison away from the orbiter, with help from the Booster Separation Motors, about 26.3 nautical miles above the Earths surface.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Operations personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, launched two hydrographic survey vessels from the Engineers Depot on Hutchinson Island into the Savannah Harbor, Georgia on Oct. 1, 2022. At the request of the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessels were deployed to Brunswick Harbor to survey the entrance channel in response to Hurricane Ian.
