Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Royal Air Force 1939-1945- Coastal Command The presence of aircraft in an otherwise remote location, previously linked to the mainland by boat only, meant that No 220 Squadron flew its share of mercy missions from Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. This patient with acute appendicitis was airlifted to hospital on the mainland in one of the Squadron's Fortresses, the open waist window serving as a convenient entrance to the aircraft, May 1943.

Royal Air Force- Italy, the Balkans and South-east Europe, 1942-1945. Sergeant G H Wingate of No. 2908 Field Squadron RAF Regiment sitting in the turret of an Otter light reconnaissance car in Athens, after being awarded the Military Medal for his actions during an engagement with German troops in northern Greece. On 28 October 1944, 2908 Squadron were pursuing retreating Germans to the Yugoslavian border. An armoured car driven by Sergeant (then Corporal) Wingate was reconnoitering enemy positions at Kozani when it came under fire from a 37mm anti-tank gun and received several direct hits, wounding Wingate and killing his Flight Commander, Flying Officer J H Dennis. Despite the enemy fire and his wounds, Wingate managed to extricate the badly damaged vehicle and reach safety.

Before 1932, the Kingdom of Siam did not possess a legislature, as all legislative powers were vested in the person of the monarch. This has been the case since the foundation of the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 12th century, as the king was seen as a 'Dharmaraja' or King who rules in accordance with the Buddhist law of righteousness. However on 24 June 1932 a group of civilians and military officers, calling themselves the Khana Ratsadon (or People's Party) carried out a bloodless revolution, in which 150 years of absolute rule of the House of Chakri was ended. In its stead the group advocated a constitutional form of monarchy with an elected legislature. The Draft Constitution of 1932 signed by King Prajadhipok, created Thailand's first legislature, a People's Assembly with 70 appointed members. The assembly met for the first time on 28 June 1932, in the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall. The Khana Ratsadon decided that the people were not yet ready for an elected assembly; however they later

Car being towed, France, during World War I. This image shows a car being towed through thick mud. As the car in front tries to pull the other free, a soldier lends a hand by pulling on the tow rope. A group of soldiers standing next to the immovable car add their weight to the struggle. There appears to be a camp directly behind the road they are on. The car in front has the number 'M25446' painted on the bonnet. Extreme weather conditions, and the floods and mud that ensued, created tremendous problems and hazards for the soldiers at the Front.
