Bomb Damage in Birmingham, England, 1940 Only one very badly damaged house still stands amidst the huge piles of timber and rubble following an air raid on Queen's Road, Aston, Birmingham. This site was damaged during the longest raid sustained by Birmingham, lasting 13 hours, which occurred on 11 December 1940. A few other houses can be seen in the background: all are without a roof.

London Has Biggest Blitz of Year. Five Hospitals Hit: These shelters saved people's lives during last night's raid on London. Nazi bombers carried out their heaviest blitz of the year on London lastnight. Attacking in groups raiders rained down fire and high explosive bombs for several hours. At least five hospitals were hit and damage to commercial premises, shops and houses was considerable. Some of the districts had their worst raid of the war. In one of these a number of dead have been recovered from a shelter that was hit, and rescue work is still going on. March 20, 1941. (Photo by Wide World Photo).

Jews Demolish Arab Village - The wrecked Arab village of as Sumeiriya, about six kilometres North of Acre, Palestine, after it had been levelled by Jewish demolition teams, who held it as the most troublesome Arab sniper point on the North-South highway. After two days of bitter fighting, American troops of the Alli & Expaditionary Force liberated Carentan, the possession of which matarially strengthens the link established between two major beachheads in Allied hands. Burned Out Building Is All That Remains Of Irun -- A Party of Rebel troops entering the border town of Irun. Burned out vehicles in the Rue de Castiglione, liberation of Paris, 25 August 1944. The citizens of Paris staged an uprising against the occupying Germans as the Allies neared the city. The fighting ended when the Germans surrendered to the French 2nd Armoured Division on 25 August. The photographer is unknown.
