Factory Welfare Work- Welfare at Pilkington's Glass Factory, St Helens, Lancashire, England, UK, 1944 Women do stretching exercises in the gymnasium at the factory rehabilitation centre, (probably at Pilkington's glass works at St Helens), as part of their recovery after an injury. They are kneeling on the floor, with one leg and the opposite arm outstretched. According to the original caption 'the aim of the centre is to prevent men and women from becoming permanently disabled. By exercises and massage under the guidance of a physio-therapist trained in modern methods the injured persons are given recreative treatment until they attain the maximum recovery from their injury'.
