U.S. Inquiry on M-Aid - Senator Tom Connally, Chairman of the United States Foreign Relations Committee.Mr. Paul Hoffman, M-Aid administrator and Mr. Thomas Finletter, M-Aid British Mission chief, will appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at Washington to-day (Monday) at the inquiry into Britain's needs. The inquiry is a result of a recent statement by Mr. Christopher Mayhew, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who was reported as saying that Britain had completed her recovery. U.S. Congress leaders believe that the inquiry is necessary to convince the taxpayers that Britain does, in fact, still need Marshall Aid. February 28, 1949.

Cordell Hull (October 2, 1871 - July 23, 1955) was an American politician from the U. S. state of Tennessee. He is best known as the longest-serving Secretary of State, holding the position for 11 years (1933-1944) in the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during much of World War II. Hull received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 for his role in establishing the United Nations, and was referred to by President Roosevelt as the 'Father of the United Nations'.
