TISF: Social and Family Intervention Technician, Stephanie works with the P family following a difficult pregnancy (4 years ago) and as part of a CAF (birth replacement) contract. Children suffering from pervasive developmental disorders are followed individually thanks to intensive behavioural interventions in ABA. ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. ABA applies scientific laws to create or modify behaviour which is socially significant for the person and society as a whole. AMA involves a program of techniques for modifying behaviour and developing skills. The skills are taught through procedures of chaining, guiding, prompting, fading, shaping.

Reportage on Elsa, 10, who has been deaf from birth and wears bilateral cochlear implants. Her deafness was detected when she was 10 months old and she had implants for the first time when she was 17 months and then again at 3. She said her first word when she was 22 months old. She went to a school for the deaf, then she started at regular school when she was 5. Twice a week, Elsa has the help of a cued-speech signer, who enables her to understand her teachers properly, perfect her pronunciation, particularly when learning foreign languages.

He is retarded in speech and language development as well as in understanding and expressing himself. The speech therapists uses the N-EEL language assessment test, which requires several sessions lasting between 2 and 3 hours.

Reportage on the integration of a hearing-impaired child in a nursery in Geneva. 2-year old Maxime had an implant this year and was able to join the nursery. Once a week a cued speech transliterator comes to the nursery to read stories to Maxime and his friends. Maxime learns cued speech transliteration and his friends can learn to communicate with him. The nursery personnel have also been trained in cued speech transliteration.
