Charlotte Salomon's main achievement was a group of almost 800 small gouache paintings on paper entitled Life or Theater (Leben oder Theater), which forms a single narrative conceived as an illustrated book. The series tells the story of the artist's life through thinly disguised characters meant to represent her circle of friends and family. Important themes include the young artist's own struggle with her family's past and with her need to express herself artistically. Salomon was murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp when she was only 26 years old. Her parents found Life or Theater after her death when they visited the small French village where she had lived before her deportation by the Nazis. They eventually donated the entire series to the Jewish Historical Museum in Amst

Images are organized by geographic region in Italy, then by province, city, site complex and monument.

. Room screen with six panels made of wood, placed on both sides with paper, with paper hinges (two whole and two half). The whole rigid with slats of black varnished wood, reinforced with gold-plated copper batter. The front is painted in a yellow-green picture frame with a representation of a Japanese interior with tatami mats and an open wall, a garden with shredder, peonies and grass, clouds and a moon, executed in gouache and gold leaf over thicker 'blogers' paint, brought with a brush. The back is covered with gray Japanese paper, afterwards (so after the paper is already stuck on the screen) with a stencil or template in black painted with geometric motifs in circles. The width of the template is approximately twenty centimeters.
