Andy Warhol (1928-1987), artist and experimental filmmaker and one of the founders of the Pop Art movement. He studied commercial art at Carnegie Mellon University and had a successful career in magazine advertising, which undoubtedly led him to explore the intersection of art and mass production and the democratic frisson created by their overlap. African American sculptor, Selma Burke, with her portrait bust of Booker T. Washington, c. 1936. The portrait was one of her WPA works.
