SASEBO, Japan (April 27, 2022) Sailors assigned to the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) prepare to board the ship during an integrated industrial firefighting drill with Commander, Naval Region Japan Fire & Emergency Services firefighters onboard U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo, April 27. The drill, required by the Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention (8010), was created to train integrated teams of Sailors and base firefighters to casualties in industrial environments. The Department of the Air Force CE event is hosted by the Air Force Civil Engineer Center. After a 20+ year hiatus, the challenge, a premier event for Department of the Air Force civil engineers, is back. This year's Readiness Challenge is the initial operating capability event before the challenge reaches full operating capability within the next two years. At this year's event, which runs through April 22, eight teams representing major commands and U.S. Space Force are facing off in about 20 events showing myriad of CE capabilities from emergency airfield lighting and water purification to building a guard shack from the ground up and firefighting and EOD operations.

148th Fighter Wing first responders and 25 partnering agencies participated in a full-scale Triennial exercise at the Duluth International Airport, Duluth, Minnesota on June 2, 2022. The exercise simulated an aircraft striking a piece of large construction equipment upon touching down on the runway. Full-scale exercises like this exercise communication and response with diverse response agencies with a goal of saving lives and ensuring airport infrastructure is available for the community in a swift manner. Air Force Academy firefighter Airman 1st Class Steven Cimochowski drags the fire hose towards the target during team competition of the two-day regional Firefighter Combat Challenge competition which was held June 24/25 at the Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium. The event showcased the skills of nearly 200 military and civilian firefighters, which included 28 academy firefighters.
