KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Leaders of prominent Florida space organizations convened at the Florida Space Authority campus in Cape Canaveral to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Space Foundation to launch the first Florida Space conference. Dr. James W. Johnson (left), chairman of the Canaveral Council of Technical Societies, and Col. Mark H. Owen, commander of the 45th Space Wing at Patrick Air Force Base, sign copies of the agreement for their respective organizations. Others present to sign the agreement are retired Navy Capt. Winston E. Scott, executive director of the Florida Space Authority; Dr. Woodrow Whitlow Jr., deputy director of the Kennedy Space Center; and Elliot G. Pulham, president and chief executive officer of the Space Foundation. The conference will combine and build on the best features of previous Florida space events including Space Congress and the Cape Canaveral Spaceport Symposium. Both will be retired now in favor of this new event to be held annually

Groundbreaking for the new Central Campus took place in the Industrial Area at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Kirk Hazen, southeast district manager and vice president of Hensel Phelps, the construction contractor, speaks to members of the media and guests during the groundbreaking ceremony. Behind him is Nancy Bray, director of Kennedy's Center Operations Directorate. To his right is Kennedy Center Director Bob Cabana. To his left is Steve Belflower, vice president of HuntonBrady Architects of Orlando. Kennedy is transforming into a multi-user, 21st century spaceport supporting both commercial and government users and operations. Central Campus Phase I includes construction of a new Headquarters Building as one of the major components of the strategy. The new Headquarters Building will be a seven-story, 200,000-square-foot facility that will house about 500 NASA civil service and contractor employees.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - At NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, The Pizzuti Companies Naeem Coleman, left, Mike Bird, Stephanie Moreton and Tom Harmer, Florida Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, and The Pizzuti Companies Ron Pizzuti and Jim Russell break ground on Exploration Park outside of the Space Life Sciences Laboratory, or SLSL. Exploration Park is designed to be a strategically located complex, adjacent to the SLSL, for servicing diverse tenants and uses that will engage in activities to support space-related activities of NASA, other government agencies and the U.S. commercial space industry, as well as bring new aerospace work to the Space Coast. The SLSL will be the anchor facility for the park, which is expected to open its first new facility in early 2012.

Since 1983 the CAN-US Joint Marine Pollution Contingency Plan (JCP) has included five geographic annexes which outline the scope and terms for planning and coordinating responses to transboundary pollution in the maritime domain. These annexes are the responsibility of the respective regional Coast Guard offices. U.S. Coast Guard District 17 collaborates with Canadian Coast Guard counterparts to maintain and exercise two of the annexes: Annex 4 (Beaufort Sea) and Annex 5 (Dixon Entrance).
