This is a photograph of Captain Walter Jack Duncan's original artwork during World War 1. He was a commissioned U.S. Army artist assigned to the American Expeditionary Force (AEF). The artwork is currently believed to be housed in the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, set to open in 2020. The image depicts German prisoners being escorted to work in Neufchateau, France, in May 1918.

Fort de Bicetre, Siege of Paris by Paul Roux, 1870-1871. After the disastrous defeat of the French at Sedan and the capture of Napoleon III, the Prussians surrounded Paris on 9 September 1870. The French commander, General Trochu, initially opted to rely on a static defence based on the city's fortifications rather than trying to break through the Prussian encirclement. The Prussians, meanwhile, had no intention of invading the city, relying on a blockade to compel its capitulation. Eventually the French made several attempts to break out, but all were unsuccessful. The city held out despite famine and great hardship until a bombardment with heavy siege guns led to its surrender on 28 January 1871. From a private collection.

This print depicts a siege by French troops, who attack at left and right, begun on June 13, 1640. King Louis XIII joined the French army for the siege, the progress of which was delayed when Spanish reinforcements unsuccessfully tried to block the delivery of supplies to the French. The French captured the city from the Spanish on August 9, gaining an important strategic town on the southern frontier of the Spanish Netherlands.This work is the top section of two prints. Troops belonging to the French Army of Aragon, commanded by General Suchet, fought against a Spanish garrison led by Lieutenant General Juan Senen de Contreras.
