Engines Of Crashed Comet Flown To London -- One of the battered engines ***** crashed Comet on a ***** unloaded from the ***** Airport to-day.Three engines of the BOAC Comet jetliner which crashed into the Mediterranean off the island of Elba with the less of 35 lives arrived at London Airport to-day (Sunday) after being flown from Rome.The engines, salvaged from the sea, include one which was found without its bladed rotor. It is thought that detailed examination of this engine may solve the mystery of the cause of the disaster. March 21, 1954. (Photo by Reuterphoto).

Soviet Balloonists to Attack Their Own Stratosphere Record - To Try For 15 Miles -- The gondola of the new balloon which has been named the Osiaviakhi.Early next month the Soviet balloonists who set up a world's record by reaching a height of 62,320 feet are to attempt to break their own record by rising to nearly 70,000 feet, about 15 miles above the earth.A new balloon is being completed near Leningrad by M.E.E. Chatovskoi, who designed the record-breaking balloon. The gondola has been constructed of rust-proof non-magnetic steel scarcely thicker than paper, instead of aluminium, as in the case of all previous stratosphere craft. November 25, 1933.

Furling Sails on the ""Joseph Conrad"", Classic Photography

The 1912 caption reads: "Canal that Nero Dreamed of - This is one of the wonderful canals which helped to shorten the journey around the world. It is the Corinth Canal, cut through the Isthmus of Corinth, and it enables ships to go to Athens and then on through the blue Aegean Sea to Constantinople without having to sail round the rocky coast of Morea, in the south of Greece. When the Roman emperor Nero was young and energetic, he caused this canal to be be begun, but the work was put off and never resumed until our own time. It is 3.2 miles long, and was cut through limestone rock in one part 250 feet above the level of the sea. The canal is 100 feet wide and 26 feet deep, and jit saves ships 200 miles, Sailing through it from Greece, the traveler comes out in full view of the city where Paul made tents." Under Nero, the canal was begun in 67 AD, but he was assassinated and work stopped. In 1881, the Greeks began construction and first shipped passed.
