Icelandic Cod Arrives -- The Icelandic trawler after arrival at Grimsby yesterday. The Icelandic trawler Ingolfur Arnarson arrived at Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, yesterday October 14 with a cargo of Icelandic Fish, mostly cod. The catch was offered for sale on the open market there, but only a small part was sold. There was only one buyer. British trawler owners have announced they will with hold normal supplies from anyone buying Icelandic fish. The catch was brought into Britain by George Dawson, a London businessman. It is the first Icelandic fish to be unloaded in Britain for nearly a year. October 15, 1953. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).

The "Met" Service Puts To Sea -- A stern-on view of the new "Weather Ship" seen at the London Docks this morning, and showing the balloon station set on the aft of the vessel.The first of the new Air Ministry Ocean "Weather Ships" to be completed is now at the London Docks, ready to put to sea to take up station in the Atlantic. Altogether 13 stations are planned to be set up in the North Atlantic from which meteorological observations of surface and upper air conditions can be made at regular intervals. July 31, 1947.

This photo taken during World War I shows German merchant submarine Deustchland lying in Chesapeake Bay before returning across the Atlantic. In spite of the vigilance of English patrols, the Deutschland made two trips to the United States, landing once at Baltimore and once at New London. The Deutschland was a blockade-breaking German cargo submarine. It was private and owned by the North German Lloyd Line and had a capacity of 700 tons. Its commanding officer was Paul Koenig. It was used for high-value trans-Atlantic commerce, submerging to avoid British patrols.

Speeding After Dollars - Caronia Maiden Trip -- Steaming tugs escort the Caronia as she passes the Cunard White Star Queen Elizabeth, seen in background, which is undergoing annual overhaul in the dry dock at Southampton.The Cunard White Star luxury vessel, the 34,183-ton Caronia, left Southampton on her maiden voyage to New York today (Tues.). First Post-War British liner designed primarily as a dollar-earner, she is the largest built in the world since the war - at a coast approaching four million pounds. Carrying nearly 1,000 passengers, shw is off on a more southerly course nearer the Azores than the normal route, the object being to test the effect of the new sun and sea on the liner's "New Look" paint of black, three shades of greet and aluminium.
