Coast Guardsman Worships at Guam. Coast Guard Combat Photographer John Papsun, of Birmingham, Mich., kneels in the old Spanish Mission on the island of Guam in the Marianas. Earlier, battered Jap fighters used the historic site of worship as a hiding spot. Coast Guardsman Papsun "shoots" invasions while serving aboard a Coast Guard-manned invasion supply ship. His home is at 1028 University Drive, Route #4.

Coast Guard Para-Rescuers Wage Endless Life-Saving War in Alaska Woods and Ice. Mountain-top Vigil Search for plane-crash victims carries a Coast Guard para-rescuers to a vantage point atop a mountain towering over a snow-and wood-covered valley. Other mountain peaks punch through a thick sheet of fog which teams with snow, ice, and woods in hindering the searching party. Dropped into the Alaska wilderness from a Coast Guard plane, the para-rescuer carries a heavy pack of emergency rations and other equipment to help care for survivors until they can be moved to safety.

Bering Sea Expedition - NORTHWIND's Commanding Officer (1 of 9). Captain Richard E. Morell, USCG, commanded the Coast Guard Icebreaker NORTHWIND (WAGB=282), during the mid-winter expedition into the icebound Bering Sea. No stranger to such an assignment, he had served aboard two Coast Guard Cutters, the CHELAN and NORTHLAND, on Arctic cruises out of Seattle in the 1930's, and participated in the U.S. Navy expedition to Point Barrow in 1947. With his wife, Virginia, and two children, he lives at 2607 West Blaine Street, Seattle, Wash.

From "Hell's Acre" To God's Acre. Sprawled face down in the soft volcano dust of an Iwo Jima shell hole dug by the great guns of the U.S. Fleet, a Marine finds his "Journey's End" on the tiny island which the Japs defended with ferocious tenacity. A Coast Guard Combat Photographer, going in with the invaders, made this picture, grimley symbolic of a courage-unto-death with which the Marines fought their bitterest fight.

On July 8, 2022, Army Support Activity Fort Dix dedicated Military Training Classroom Building 5507 to the late New Jersey State Senator John Edward Dimon. Senator Dimon was a US Army veteran of World War II and strong supporter of Fort Dix and the US military during his time in office. Current Fort Dix Base Commander COL Jon Brierton and Former Fort Dix Base Commander COL (R) Michael Warner were the keynote speakers at the dedication ceremony. Also in attendance was the Dimon family members. The son of Senator Dimon, Mark Dimon, accepted the tribute to his father. (Photos taken by the Fort Dix TSC- Training Support Center)
