During the second third of the 19th century many Spaniards went as farmers to make their fortune in northern Algeria. On June 11, 1881, the men of the Marabout Mohamed el-Arbi, known as Bu-Amena, attacked farmers who were gathering esparto in the Oranian agricultural fields of Khalfalia and Frendah, near Saida (Algeria). It caused panic among European emigrants. Many of them returned to their countries of origin. Port of Cartagena (Spain). Arrival of the transatlantic steamer "Saint Augustin", transporting reinforcements of French troops from Marseille to Algeria. The contingent was made up by 905 French infantrymen . Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

National Fire Service on War Production- War work in a Fire Station, London, England, UK, 1943 In the shadow of the Tower of London, NFS firemen of the River Thames Formation travel down the river on their way to an incident after receiving a call at the fire station. Signalling from the deck of the boat is Fireman H S Bellingham. Immediately before the alarm sounded, these men were working on the production of paddles for naval assault craft.

American troops landing on a lighter in Brest, France during World War One. The photo, taken on May 4, 1918, shows Pvt. C.D. Donnelly of the Signal Corps. It was censored and released by the M.I.B. censor on July 2, 1918.

Trooping Resumed -- Men of the Gloucestershire Regiment going aboard the "Carthage" at Southampton to-day (Wednesday). The second battalion the Gloucestershire Regiment, commanded by Lt. Col. R. J. Bewell, sails form Southampton to-day, Wednesday for service in Bermuda and Jamaica in the P. and O. liner "Carthage". They are the first battalion to leave this country with their families since before the war and 711 officers and men embarked this morning, after travelling to the port in two special trains. The 35 families sailing with them went on board yesterday. January 22, 1947.
