This image depicts the hydraulic testing of 75 mm shells in the John Bertram & Sons Co. plant in Dundas, Ontario, Canada during World War I. The shell is filled with a solution and placed upside down on a Metalwood press. An inspector tests the expansion of the shell under pressure to ensure its integrity and checks for flaws in the steel that could allow moisture to pass through.

The image shows the men troubleshooting engine problems after repairing, assembling, and running the engine. In the photograph, the instructor has intentionally put the engine out of adjustment, and the students are tasked with finding the issue, adjusting it, and restarting the engine. One of the students suspects a problem with the electrical connections while another believes it could be a clog in the exhaust line.
