S.S. Europa Hits Wreck In Le Havre Harbour - Aerial view of the Europa in Le Havre yesterday - showing the S.S. Paris on her side.The 49,000 ton liner, the S.S. Europa once holder of the Blue Riband of the Atlantic and pride of the German Merchant Fleet, broke loose from her moorings at Le Havre during a storm, hurtled across the basin and hit the hulk of the sunken S.S. France Giant Submarine -- The giant French submarine, showing the two 8-inch gun battery which enabled the craft to effect the capture of a German marchentman in mid-ocean.The recent capture of a German merchant ship in mid-Atlantic by the 4,300 ton French submarine Le Surcouf focused Attention on this vessel, largest undersea craft in the world.
