Saumarez and Volage were damaged by mines north-east of Corfu.38 Killed, 45 Injured As British Destroyers Hit Mines Off Albanian Coast - One officer and 31 rating were reported killed or missing presumed killed, and two officers and 43 ratings were injured when the British destroyers Saumarez (1,650 tons) and Volage (1,710 tons) struck mines as they were steaming north through the channel between Corfu and Albania. The Royal Navy during the Second World War The battlecruiser HMS REPULSE, painted in a dazzle camouflage scheme, while escorting the last troop convoy to reach Singapore. The ship was sunk a few days later with great loss of life on 10 December 1941 by Japanese torpedoes. The sinking, along with that of HMS PRINCE OF WALES, was an appalling blow to British prestige in the Far East.
