Blast sends rock flying. Thousands of tons of rock is hurled into the air as the face of Bombo Quarry, near Kiama, is blasted by railway construction engineers. Twenty charges, containing a total of 23,000lb of gelignite, were exploded over the 520 feet length of the quarry. The blue metal will be used for ballast on railway lines and also for concrete in new construction jobs. April 05, 1949.
