The 8888 Nationwide Popular Pro-Democracy Protests (also known as the People Power Uprising) were a series of marches, demonstrations, protests, and riots in the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma (today commonly known as Burma or Myanmar). Key events occurred on 8 August 1988, and therefore it is known as the 8888 Uprising. General Thura Tin Oo (Burmese: , IPA: [t` ú; born 3 March 1927 in Pathein, often referred to as U Tin Oo) is a retired general, former commander in chief of the armed forces of Union of Myanmar, highly decorated soldier, pro-democracy activist and deputy leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Myanmar.

Iran's constitutionalist uprising (1906-09) was the first great revolution of the 20th century - an expression of spontaneous rage against a corrupt and bankrupt monarchy. It didn't demand a fundamental overthrow of the prevailing system.
