The Arsenal and Harbour Anchorage at Izmit, Turkey (aka Izmid, Kocaeli, Astacus or Nicomedia). Izmit houses a harbour 87 km southeast of Istanbul. The Eastern and most senior capital city of the Roman Empire between 286-324 AD. Founded in 712 BC - scene of the 1999 Earthquake (7.4 on richter scale) which devastated the region and killed more than 19,000 people and leaving many more homeless. The city is still recovering (2008). Date: late 1910s / early 1920s

Rome May be the City of Seven Hills, but Biloxi is the City of Seven Flags. Photo Shows: Seven flag-bearer at Biloxi, Mississippi, representing the seven different governments which have ruled this city. Biloxi was the first capital of the Louisiana Province or French Dominions, and was discovered by Iberville in 1699. The flags which have flown over Biloxi in the past are, left to right: Confederate States, British, Mississippi Magnolia, United States, Mississippi State, Spanish and French.
