The back features a letter from John Carroll, dated May 28, 1776, addressed to the same individuals. It provides updates on Generals Washington, Gates, Mifflin, and Ward, expresses that the commissioners should not depart from Canada without Congress's permission, and conveys a desire for them to be in Maryland to assist in forming the new government, along with a note on the impertinence of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Walker
