Londoners Record Their Vote on National Polling Day, Holborn, London, England, UK, 5 July 1945 A group of nurses from the nearby Great Ormond Street Hospital arrive at the polling station to cast their vote in the General Election. A policeman can be seen in the background, keeping an eye on proceedings, as the nurses are handed their ballot papers by officials. The pooling booths can be seen behind the policeman. New War Opens on Factory Front- X-ray Screening For Tuberculosis, London, England, 1943 A view of an x-ray in progress in a makeshift clinic in the shelter canteen of this factory, somewhere on the outskirts of London. A worker is told to take a deep breath an hold it whilst the x-ray is taken by the control table operator (not visible in photograph). The nurse who positions people in the right place for their x-ray, stands behind a protective screen, in order to avoid over exposure. Other workers queue up, ready for their turn to be x-rayed.

New, £15,000 hospital operated by the Australian Inland Mission was opened in Birdsville in August, 1953, after the original hospital had been destroyed by a fire two years earlier.Pictured at left are two of the handful of white women in the town, Sister V. Lady Stradbroke, formerly Helena Fraser and wife of George Rous, 3rd Earl of Stradbroke, pictured with three nurses at the family home of Henham Hall in Suffolk. The house was converted into a military hospital during the First World War and received convoys of wounded soldiers directly from France, who were passed on to the Red Cross once sufficiently well. Lady Stradbroke took sole charge as matron and efficiently superintended the hospital. Henham Hall was demolished in 1953.
