Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Germany Before the First World War 1890 - 1914 The opening of the Kiel Canal, linking the Baltic to the North Sea, on 21 June 1895. Watched by the Kaiserin and assembled dignitaries, Kaiser Wilhelm II prepares to lay the final stone and name the new waterway the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Kanal in a lavishly decorated ceremonial arena at Holtenau, Germany. The opening ceremony spanned two days. On 20 June 1895, the German Imperial Yacht HOHENZOLLERN, with the Kaiser and Kaiserin on board, entered the lock at Brunsbíttel. The Kaiser cut a ribbon and officially opened this end of the Canal. The HOHENZOLLERN then led a convoy of 24 ships down the Canal to Holtenau. The Kiel Canal was source of international tension from its inception. Its construction allowed the increasingly powerful German Imperial Navy to move rapidly from its Baltic ports to open sea without travelling through the waters of other countries. The default guard presents the standard of the Hussars Prince Alexander Regiment (RHPA) during the official presentation of this on the Bernhardkazerne in Amersfoort. RHPA continues the traditions of the former 3 Hussars regiment.

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War- the work of Samuel Franklin Cody in Airship, Kite and Aircraft Aeronautics 1903 - 1913 S F Cody discussing an aspect of the Cody Aircraft Mark IC (nicknamed the Cathedral) on Laffan's Plain near Aldershot with Colonel J E Capper, Superintendant of the British Army Balloon Factory and Balloon School. This photograph was taken on the day before Capper joined Cody on a flight in the Mark IC, thus becoming the first passenger to be carried by an aircraft in Britain. Colonel Capper was instrumental in the War Office appointment as Chief Kite Instructor at the Briotish Army Balloon Factory at Farnborough in Hampshire. Their relationship was not without difficulties, partly because of Capper's preference for airships over aircraft and his support of Cody's rival, John Dunne, and partly because of Cody's non military attitude..

"There He Is." - Part of the huge crowd which assembled at the Archerfield aerodrome to greet Mr. Scott as he landed in Brisbane. As his famous aeroplane and its escort hove in sight, every eye including those of the policemen gazed into the sun to catch a glimpse of the sun. Youth storm in Stadium Galgenwaard, 1942 photograph A long line of members of the Jeugdstorm comes down the stadium in Stadium Galgenwaard in Utrecht on June 20, 1942. In the stadium they will attend the sworn in 3000 executives of the NSB. At the bottom of the stairs is a Wehrmacht soldier with a flag. There are members of the youth storm in the stands, left and right of the stairs. A part brings the NSB greeting: stretched arm like the Hitler salute and calling: Houzee. The ceremony of the oath was the result of a compromise between the Germans and the NSB. The Germans did not want an oath on Hitler (which Mussert had secretly done before) the NSB. International Train Takes Foreigners From War Threatened Hankow -- British and U.S. Sailors lashing an enormous union jack on top of the special coaches.Draped with the union Jack and U.S. Flags a special train, June 28, took 230 men, women and children of eight nationalities from Hankow, Chinese government and military centre and announced goal of the most ambitious Japanese military campaign of the Sino-Japanese war. With the Hankow-canton "Lifeline" railroad being increasingly used for military transport, this train may well be the last one from Hankow available for any large number of foreigners.
