Literary Showman:Mr. William Alfred Foyle, 'the world's greatest secondhand bookseller', sells not only secondhand books - he also sells Mr.William Alfred Foyle. He started business in a Hoxton grocer's shop, where there first came a vision of the great truth which led him to fortune; that there are certain typos of books which can be sold over and over again, at an almost constant profit, until, indeed, the binding finally disintegrates. From Hoxton the business moved to Peckham, and in 1906 to Cecil Court, Charing Gross Road, from where the Foyle brothers moved to their present warren of 30 miles of shelves. 'Picture Post' artist Edgar Ainsworth gives his impressions of Mr. Foyle, and cameraman Daniel Farson photographs him. May 3, 1952.

Malta's Prime Minister Goes To The Colonial Office -- Pictured in London to-day (Monday) is Dr. Paul Boffa, Prime Minister of Malta. He was going to the Colonial Office for another meeting with Mr. A. Creech Jones, Secretary of State for the Colonies.Dr. Boffa is back in London to continue negotiations with the British Government on the solution of post-war reconstruction problems in the Island.He headed a delegation which arrived in London on July 23 and was expected to remain for four weeks. On August 5, however, the delegates returned home to attend an urgent cabinet meeting. August 15, 1949.

Mr. V. Smith Told by a Sydney insurance company manager 34 years ago that he was dead, a Melbourne man this week realised on his life policy. The man, Mr. Victor Smith, managing director of a Melbourne racing newspaper, took out the policy with £20 he won on a race double before leaving to fight with the first AIF in France. When he returned to Australia in 1918 he called at the office to Day up his premium. The manager told him he was dead, that the policy had been terminated and a cheque for £204 made out in full settlement. Mr. Smith, who was a nephew of the late Sir James Joynton Smith, refused to sign a receipt for the cheque. The board of the company rein stated Mr. Smith's policy. March 4, 1952.
