Behind him is a wall paneling with an oval in which two crossed keys from the coat of arms of Leiden. On the table are a hat with feather, inkwell and a sheet of paper. The portrayed is wearing dark knee breeches and stockings and shoes with buckles. In his right hand resting on the bust he has a quill, in left hand a diamond shaped small object. Around his neck a chain with a pendant in the shape of an anchor. Under his left foot a viper wriggles.
