Reunion in Carigara (No. 2 in a Series of Six). 15 years is a long time---There is no mistaking his warm-hearted greeting being given Coast Guardsman Precioso M. Nicanor upon his return to his Philippine home after an absence of 15 years. His daughter, yet unborn when he left, is grown and beautiful. His wife is changed. Her face is lined, her hair is streaked with gray by long years under Jap domination. Their house is a Nipa palm leaf hut, where once it had boasted mahogany walls. The Japs had used the walls as firewood. The women, however, had hidden fine clothes in the hills. For example, the dress Mrs. Maria Nicanor is wearing, above, is in an old Filipino design, made of pure hand-blocked silk. Daughter Betty is wearing leather shoes, rather than the customary wooden clogs of Jap-dominated days.

A little one-room schoolhouse at Pine Top had 8 pupils. At the time the photograph was taken (1955), Nebraska had more of these "one-roomers" than any other state.
