In The Path of the Funeral "Good Dragons" ward off "Evil Spirits" - Men bearing "Dragons" in the funeral procession. An ancient Chinese custom was recently revived in Shanghai, when queer rites were reformed to ward off Evil spirits during a Chinese funeral. Large parties of men were employed to precede the funeral procession to exorcise possible demons from the thoroughfares through which the cortege passed. It is an old Chinese belief that evil spirits will try to snatch the soul as the body is borne to its last resting place.
