Marina Mercante espanola (Spanish Merchant Navy). The new steamer Manuel L. Villaverde, built for the Compania Trasatlantica at Lobnitz & Co. shipyard in Renfrew (Scotland) and laid down in 1882. It was designed for navigation in the West Indian seas. It covered the commercial line of the Gulf of Mexico. After the war of 1898 it covered the Spanish Guinea line. 'The Portuguese schooner Rapido (in ballast), for Cardiff, for coals, whilst making the mouth of Ramsgate Harbour, on the morning of the 30th December, came in contact with the east pier-head, which completely turned her round into the bend of the pier, a very dangerous place, where many an unfortunate seaman has met his death. A floating railway across the Forth between Granton and Burntisland. The route designed to carrying goods and live stock without the inconvience of unloading the trucks. The heavy moveable platform is positioned on sixteen wheels attached by universal joints and four iron girders. These girders are raised and lowered on the arrival and departure of the vessel, by a winch that is attached either side. Thwe railway and the engines were constructed by Mr Robert Napier. ""Il Leone di Caprera". Sailing schooner of 9 meters of length that crewed by three Italians wanted to cross the Atlantic Ocean with a sextant as the only guide. They set sail on October 3rd 1880 from Montevideo (Uruguay). On January 9, 1881 they arrived in Las Palmas (Canary Islands, Spain). The leader of the expedition was Vicenzo Fondacaro (1844-1893), an Italian captain.
