Illustration of where cholesterol comes from and how it is eliminated. The body's cholesterol is synthesized in the liver (70%), the diet provides the rest. LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) is used for cellular consumption. When there is too much LDL in the body, it is captured by HDL (good cholesterol) to be redirected to the liver and eliminated. It is said that LDL is a bad cholesterol because in too large quantities in the body, it sticks to the walls of the arteries to form an atheroma plaque, while HDL protects the arteries and tissues.

Secretion of insulin on a person with diabetes type 2. Diabetes type 2 (or non-insulin-dependent) is a form of diabetes mellitus affecting mainly adults over 40 due to a food too rich in fat, the metabolism of glucose is very perturbated. The muscle cells do not respond normally to the action of insulin, that is responsible for indicating them to let glucose enter to make glycemia decrease (rate of sugar in the blood). Illustration of radioimmunotherapy used to treat pancreatic cancer. A radioactive isotope (lead-212) is combined with a specific antibody capable of targeting cancerous cells. This combination of antibody and lead-212 radioisotope is injected intravenously into the body until it reaches the pancreas where it locks onto the cancerous cells' antigen. The lead destroys the cells by irradiating them. This treatment limits the toxicity on healthy cells located near the cancerous cells.
