KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- In this aerial view, the tail of the orbiter Discovery can be seen as it begins rolling out of the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) bay 1 (center left of photo). Behind it is the tow-way, which leads from the Shuttle Landing Facility past the OPF. In the foreground is the new road under construction as part of the Safe Haven project. And at right is the one of two crawlers used to move the Shuttles to the launch pad. Discovery is moving to the Vehicle Assembly Building for stacking with an external tank and solid rocket boosters before its launch on mission STS-103. The launch date is currently under review for early December. STS-103, the third Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission, is a "call-up" due to the need to replace portions of the pointing system, the gyros, which have begun to fail on the Hubble Space Telescope. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - As seen on Google Maps, the view from the top of the Fixed Service Structure at Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The FSS, as the structure is known, is 285 feet high and overlooks the Rotating Service Structure that was rolled into place when a space shuttle was at the pad. The path taken by NASA's massive crawler-transporters that carried the shuttle stack 3 miles from Vehicle Assembly Building are also visible leading up to the launch pad. In the distance are seen the launch pads and support structures at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for the Atlas V, Delta IV and Falcon 9 rockets. Google precisely mapped the space center and some of its historical facilities for the company's map page. The work allows Internet users to see inside buildings at Kennedy as they were used during the space shuttle era.

In the upper right corner of the storage field is a Caterpillar excavator with a 48-inch shear demolishing LUT-1, used to launch Apollo 8, Apollo 11, Skylab manned missions and the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. The shear is one used in the deconstruction of the Twin Towers in New York City after 9/11.

These images/video show how teams rolled out, or moved, the completed core stage for NASAs Space Launch System rocket from NASAs Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Crews moved the flight hardware for the first Artemis mission to NASAs Pegasus barge on Jan. 8 in preparation for the core stage Green Run test series at NASAs Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Pegasus, which was modified to ferry SLS rocket hardware, will transport the core stage from Michoud to Stennis for the comprehensive core stage Green Run test series.
