When a tanker was launched at a North of England ship yard recently, before she had completely entered the water, the keel plate of the next vessel for the stocks was being slung into position. Munitions Production in Britain, 1940 This photograph shows the special shoes which must be worn within a munitions factory. They are made from leather or rubber and have no metal on them at all. It is important that these shoes are worn so that no sparks are generated by any metal fastenings: clearly, this would be disasterous in an arms factory.
