Wall tile 16th century Spanish, Seville Tin-glazed earthenware, of which lusterware is one type, was developed in the Middle East in the ninth and tenth centuries to imitate the porcelains produced in China. The opaque white glaze concealed the clay body, which could range from pale buff to brick red, allowing for brilliant effects created by painting the white surface with metal oxides that fired to a range of colors. This technique, as well as the use of metallic lusteran iridescent, coppery painted glazespread throughout the Muslim world, arriving among the potters of Valencia in the thirteenth century. The so-called Hispano-Moresque lusterware, with its fusion of Islamic and Gothic styles and motifs, often in shaped imitating those of metal vessels, was treasured by the elite in Spain during the fifteenth century and exported to the courts of Europe. Ceiling Painting from the Tomb Chapel of Senenmut ca. 1479-1458 B.C. New Kingdom During the 1922-1923 excavation season, members of the Museum's Egyptian Expedition began work in the tomb chapel of Senenmut, one of Hatshepsut's best-known officials. The chapel had been carved into a layer of very poor quality limestone on the northeast slope of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna hill in Western Thebes and portions of the ceiling had caved in, including thick layers of painted plaster. Senenmut's offering chapel consisted of two rooms forming a T. The chapel faces almost due east and the entrance leads into a broad, transverse hall extending to the right and left (north/south). The long axial hall extends straight ahead (west). The ceilings of these two rooms were painted with a variety of geometric patterns and bands of text recording offering prayers and the name and titles of Senenmut. Choiseul was one of the most powerful politicians during the reign of Louis XV until he fell out of favor with the king and was forced to retire at his country estate at Chanteloup in 1770.In an anonymous drawing, now in a private collection, dating to ca. 1771, the door is clearly visible in the dukes private cabinet, one of the most richly ornamented rooms in the castle. The interior, restored in 1776 and 1827, is neoclassical. Views in prints H-6 and H-9 show a small barrel-vaulted chapel with a modern main altar painting of the Last Supper. This is either the oratory or a misidentifed church interior. Strip bastard with hot air balloon, anonymous, 1825 - 1849 Strip of natural -colored bobbin: Antwerp side. A hot air balloon can be seen on the short strip, which is originally part of a larger pattern that has been cut. The balloon is made in a traly land, a Valenciennes ground. The motifs are made in linen battle with openwork edges and thicker, shiny contour threads. Between the closed stripes in the balloon, standing couples and single lace -hole strokes ensure a decorative effect in the openwork stripes. In the upper part of the basket, a snowflake soil (with elongated and square spiders/snowflakes) is used in an octagonal pattern as a decorative soil.
