The 26.2 mile race drew roughly 20,000 participants, and is known as "The People's Marathon," as there is no prize money for top finishers; all runners were celebrated for their honor, courage, and commitment.

Veterans Memorial Plaza is shown Nov. 17, 2022, at the Commemorative Area at Fort McCoy, Wis. It was the last day of 2022 where the flags were still posted at the plaza and it was a snow-filled day. The 900 block of Fort McCoy and the 11-acre area surrounding it are at the hub of the forts history-preservation efforts and is called the Commemorative Area. The Commemorative Area consists of five World War II-era buildings set aside to help tell Fort McCoy's unique story. These facilities are representative of the types found in the cantonment area when it was constructed in 1942. Three of the buildings an administrative facility, a dining facility, and a barracks are set up to depict Soldier life during the 1940s. Display items include a World War II chapel, bunk beds, footlockers, mannequins, and potbelly stoves. A tall obelisk at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala, serves as a monumental reminder of sacrifices of many Indian soldiers in the Liberation War of 1971, which resulted in the freedom of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Lance Naik Albert Ekka, PVC was a soldier in the Indian Army. He was killed in action in the Battle of Gangasagar, during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. Official Imagery from the ceremony honoring the life of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel Woodrow "Woody" Williams, Medal of Honor recipient, held at the World War II Memorial, Washington D.C., July 14, 2022. Born in Quiet Dell, West Virginia in 1923, Williams, 98, was awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicious gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his live above and beyond the call of duty" while he served as a demolition sergeant sewrving with the 21st Marines, third Marine Division while fighting Japanese forces on Iwo Jima on Feb. 23, 1945. At the time of his death on June 29, 2022, he was the last living World War II Medal of honor recipient.
