CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (Sept. 11, 2022)- During a ceremony this morning at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (CLDJ) the United States Flag was lowered to half-staff in order remember the 2,977 victims of the terrorist attacks on our nation that occurred on 11 September 2001. Camp Lemonnier's leadership and Chief's Mess wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on the victims of this attack as well as those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice supporting the Global War on Terrorism. As Americans, we chose to commemorate this day with act of service and remembrance. CLDJ serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia.

The West Virginia State Memorial services for U.S. Marine Corps CWO4 Hershel "Woody" Williams took place at the State Capitol and Culture Center Theater, July 3, 2022 in Charleston, W.Va. Born on October 2, 1923, in Quiet Dell, WV, Woody enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on May 26, 1943, and advanced to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 before his retirement in 1969 after 17 years of service. During WWII, Woody served in New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, and Guam before landing in Iwo Jima where his actions earned him the Medal of Honor. At the time of his death on June 29, 2022, he was the last living World War II Medal of Honor recipient.

The United States Army's most qualified uniformed interrogation teams met at Fort Bragg, North Carolina to compete in the inaugural Army Interrogation Olympics to determine the Army's Best Interrogation Team of the Year. Military Intelligence Soldiers from Regular Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard components met and thrived in an austere field environment while refining and improving individual and collective HUMINT, analytical, leader, and Soldier skills. Soldiers with the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment White Currahee” were given the opportunity to represent the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during the funeral service of Jim Pee Wee” Martin at the Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio September 21, 2022.Martin was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, he fought on D-Day in Nazi occupied France; In addition to the invasion of Normandy, Martin also parachuted in Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands, and the Battle of the Bulge.At the age of 101 Martin passed away peacefully in his home on September 11, 2022. He was one of the last remaining Airborne "Toccoa Originals" of 1942.
