SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Orion boilerplate test vehicle arrived at the U.S. Naval Base San Diego in California, and is being prepared to be loaded aboard the USS San Diego. Orion was transported in the ships well deck about 100 miles offshore for an underway recovery test. NASA and the U.S. Navy are conducting tests to prepare for recovery of the Orion crew module, forward bay cover and parachutes on its return from a deep space mission. The underway recovery test will allow the teams to demonstrate and evaluate the recovery processes, procedures, hardware and personnel in open waters. The Ground Systems Development and Operations Program Orion is the exploration spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to destinations not yet explored by humans, including an asteroid and Mars. It will have emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during space travel and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities. The Equipment Park is an outdoor display of historic and present-day equipment representative of the types used on the installation. The design of the park allows for display of 70 pieces of equipment, ranging from helicopters and howitzers to trucks and trailers. The Commemorative Area also consists of five World War II-era buildings set aside to help tell Fort McCoys unique story. These facilities are representative of the types found in the cantonment area when it was constructed in 1942.

A Stryker vehicle is driven and unloaded off a transportation ship at the Port of Pohang, Republic of Korea on January 30, 2024. The 3rd Cavalry Regiment will replace the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division as part of a regular rotation of forces to support the United States Commitment to the ROK. During a joint force exercise on Sept. 8, 2022 at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, members of the 109th Air Control Squadron and the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) drove Polaris Military RZRs that were modified with mobile battle management command and control equipment that controlled multiple aircraft from the ground. An M-113 will be available to transport the crew to safety in the event of a contingency on the pad before their launch.
