General Dwight Eisenhower addressed the staff of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory during an April 11, 1946 visit to Cleveland. The former supreme commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe was on a tour of several US cities in the months following the end of World War II. The general arrived in Cleveland on his Douglas C-54 Skymaster, the 'Sunflower II'. Eisenhower employed this aircraft while leading forces during the war. Skymasters, the military version of the DC-4 transport aircraft, were used extensively by both the army and navy throughout the war years. NACA Secretary John Victory, Lewis Director Raymond Sharp, and local politicians formally greeted Eisenhower as he deplaned at the NACA hangar. After patiently posing for the press photographers, Eisenhower accompanied Victory and Sharp to the Administration Building for a press conference. Three scientists who witnessed the British atomic tests in the Monte Bello islands passed through Perth yesterday on their way to Melbourne. They were Dr. O.M. Solandt (left), chairman of the Canadian Defence Research Board, Professor L.H. Martin, centre, of the Melbourne University, and Mr. W.A.S. Butement", a scientist of the Australian Department of Supply. Dr. Solandt said that the test had been a great success and that everything had gone according to plan. In this picture, Dr. Solandt is holding a nulla nulla (native weapon) and spear which were given to him at Onslow. Otto Adolf Eichmann 19 March 1906 31 May 1962. German Nazi SS-Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel) and one of the major organisers of the Holocaust. Eichmann was charged by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich with facilitating and managing the logistics of mass deportation of Jews to ghettos and extermination camps in German-occupied Eastern Europe during World War II. In 1960 he was captured in Argentina by the Mossad, Israel's intelligence service. Following a widely publicised trial in Israel, he was found guilty of war crimes and hanged in 1962
