These army fire Service men, who in the past months have been fighting pipe line blazes in the Imphal area , are installed in Rangoon's scarcely damaged Fire station near the famous Sule pagoda. When tie fire bell rings the men can leap from their beds and slide down the poles to their tenders in truly professional style. Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

A Pretender's Tomb Opened -- The coffin is removed from the burial vault.The tombstone engraved "here lies Louis XVII" was removed and the body of Karl Wilhelm Naundorff was removed to the nearby police station in the Dutch city of Belfast Sept. 28. Naundorff claimed to be the son of Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette, both beheaded during the French revolution. Officially the Dauphin of France died in the temple in Paris in 1795, but Naundorff claimed to be the real dauphin whose life had been saved and who escaped to Germany. He died in Delft in Aug. 10, 1845.The remains were exhumed at the request of Louis De Boubon, Great-Grandson of the Pretender, and will be tested for traces of Arsenic.
